"The Selected" (昇 () 格 () 生 () , TBA) is Chapter 25 of the Ao Ashi series, written and illustrated by Yūgo Kobayashi and based on a concept by Naohiko Ueno. This chapter was published in the 34^th issue of Big Comic Spirits' 2015 series.

Summary

With Ōtomo, Tachibana and Ashito completing their photoshoot, Kuroda comes over and introduces the 3 to the rest of the new Esperion Youth members. Later on at the Welcome Ceremony, the 4 coaches introduce themselves and what exactly they do. Outside of the clubhouse at the same time of the ceremony, Togashi says goodbye to his Biker gang as he gets ready to enter the Esperion grounds.

Synopsis

The chapter begins with Sōichirō Tachibana, Eisaku Ōtomo, and Ashito Aoi attending the Esperion Photoshoot, in which their photos will be added in the Yearly Esperion Yearbook. Ashito does not know the reason why to which Ōtomo yells at him for never learning more about Esperion. Ōtomo then questions Ashito whether his roommate has arrived yet and tell him that his own roommate is Jun Marchs Asari. Ashito replies that his roommate has yet to arrive but hopes he arrives soon so he can get to know him better. Ashito flips through the previous year's yearbook which he notes that he has to send a copy of this year's yearbook to his mom.

Tachibana arrives from his photoshoot with his roommate, Kanpei Kuroda, and introduces him to Ashito and Ōtomo. Kuroda comments on how rare it is for 3 members of the Youth team to come from the Tryouts and its much more than last year's tryout. Ashito tells Kuroda that its weird that none of the Esperion Players have came over to talk to the Tryout members. Kuroda tells him that it's because they all basically grew up together within Esperion, so they are a tight-knit group. He then reveals the names of all the members to the trio. Ashito then asks if the other guys are usually so quiet, but Kuroda tells him that its due to them all being a bit nervous for today as one of their dreams are coming true today.

Later on at the Welcoming Ceremony, all of the new Esperion Youth members are seated in front of a stage with some of their parents sitting behind them. Aki Tsukishima then starts the Ceremony by congratulating the 13 newcomers and introducing himself as one of the Youth coaches. He tells the players that if they have any questions whenever, just to come and ask him. Ashito then realizes that when Kuroda said that one of their dreams coming true means that the Esperion members who graduated from the Junior Youth team had incredible competition to get there and now they are truly part of the Esperion Youth team. Daigo Benzen then introduces himself to the players as the Goalkeeper Coach but he says that if any of the players have any questions to come to him as well.

Coach Nozomi Date then makes his own introduction as the Coach for the Youth B Team and that he will be the one who decides which player will be getting sent to the A team. Ōtomo and Tachibana then both come to similar conclusions that since the Esperion Youth Teams roughly have about 40 players in total, only a select few will make it to the starting roster of the A team. Nozomi then goes onto explains that those players who prove them on the B team will move up, however, he is interuppted by Coach Tatsuya Fukuda arriving late to the Welcome Ceremony. Ashito turns to his left to see Kuroda and the rest of the Esperion members suddenly have an extreme increase in their attention and concentration. Fukuda then properly introduces himself as the Youth A Team Coach as well as the Youth Programs Director at Esperion. Ashito then remembers the first time he met Fukuda where he told Ashito that he will take Ashito to the World stage.

The scene then switches to the outside of the Esperion clubhouse where Keiji Togashi is seen being dropped off by his biker gang. As his gang wishes him the best, he tells them that there's is nothing for them to sweat as this team (Esperion) is nothing but a stepping stone on his way to becoming a Professional Football Player.
