"The Final Test Begins" (
Summary[]
The Tryout team decide that they will be using a 3-5-2 formation. Ashito has his first interaction with Akutsu. With the match starting, the Tryout team has a relentless flurry of attacks but the score still remains 0-0. However, the Youth team, led by Akutsu reveal that they have a hidden strategy.
Synopsis[]
The chapter begins with the Tryout team discussing their formation. Sōichirō Tachibana begins the discussion of adapting their current formation of a 3-4-3 and making it a 3-5-2 with Tachibana being the Central Attacking Midfielder (CAM). Akinori Kaneda decides with Ashito Aoi to play on the Left and Right Side Forwards respectively. Momoru Izumi and Yūdai Hasegawa will be a pair of Central Defensive Midfielders (CDM). As the Right Midfielder (RM), Kenji Suda is selected and as the Left Midfielder (LM) Eisaku Ōtomo is chosen. Yonshiku Ri then pipes up as he would like to play Center Back (CB) and wants to be in charge of the defense. As such, he decides that Junnosuke Nakano will play Right Center Back (RCB) and Tōi Kakita will play the Left Center Back (LCB).
With the formation discussion over Ashito enthusiastically wants the game to start and he lets out a yell. The crowd then realizes that the test is actually going to be a match between the Tryout team and the Youth team. The kids who didn't make to the final stage are also going to be watching the match as well.
The Youth team seem to be discussing their strategy and Ashito becomes restless and wants the match to start. Nagisa Akutsu then approaches Ashito and calls attention to his well-worn and old boots. Ashito then sheepishly remarks that even though they look well worn, he has been wearing them for a while and they're still good enough to use. Akutsu then formally introduces himself to Ashito and Ashito does likewise.
As Coach Fukuda looks on from the bench, it is finally time for kickoff. With that, the Tryout team begins with a fervor. Ashito has the ball and passes it to Tachibana. Tachibana then notes that there is a massive opening on the field and passes it to Ōtomo. Ashito finds a gap and calls for Ōtomo to pass but notices that he was able to shake off his defender (Shimizu) with such ease. With Ōtomo's pass to Ashito, he takes a direct shot from the edge of the 18-yard box which barely misses and hits the left post. Hana exclaims that Ashito nearly had the goal and the crowd murmurs that it only took 3 guys(Ashito, Tachibana, and Ōtomo) to break through the formation of the Youth team.
Ashito attempts the bicycle kick
We then see Izumi with the ball and then passes to Ōtomo. Ōtomo then manages to sneak a through ball through the defense to Tachibana who takes a direct shot but is stopped by Akiyama with a dive. The ball bounces off of Akiyama's hand and Ashito happens to be in the perfect spot to attempt a bicycle kick. However, it is saved once again by Akiyama who then catches and smothers the ball.
The crowd then becomes enraged as they came to see how the Youth team plays but they are being torn apart by the Tryout team. Tachibana then has a realization that the Youth team may be doing this on purpose as everytime the game pauses, they gather and discuss tactics seriously so there's no way they can be fooling around. Kaneda then says that even the Youth team isn't playing around as they have most of their starting lineup on the field and he is getting pumped up.
However, Ashito notices that Akutsu raises his hand and ominously calls out to the rest of the Youth team asking them if they can do it. All of the Youth team then raise their hands and affirm to Akutsu that they can. Tachibana, Ashito and Kaneda are taken aback as it seems that the Youth team has suddenly become ultra serious and they are going to do something surprising.
