Summary[]

With the Tryout v Youth team match done, Ashito, Ōtomo and Tachibana are sitting outside the meeting room waiting for their results, As they are called in one at a time, the final test is just an interview. Fukuda explains the reasoning for the Youth team's reverse formation and Ashito manages to explain in a very rudimentarily way about the last play of the game.

Synopsis[]

The chapter begins with Eisaku Ōtomo, Sōichirō Tachibana hugging Ashito Aoi and laughing joyously over the goal they just scored. The crowd is going crazy and cheering the the teams on as the match between the Youth and Tryout teams. As Coach Fukuda looks on, he notes that the goal from the Youth team was nice, but the true beauty was from the off-the-ball movement showcased by Ōtomo, Tachibana and Ashito just now was perfectly executed. Coach Fukuda also notes that the key player who elaborated the entire plan was none other than Ashito himself.

Some time after the match has ended. Hana Ichijō is seen just outside the building where the reults of the tryouts are being told. Inside the building, Ashito, Tachibana and Ōtomo are seen sitting exhaustedly outside the meeting room. Aki Tsukishima comes out of the room and explains to the boys that they will each be called in one-by-one. Ashito is the first one called in and as he enters he sees, Daigo Benzen, Jun Kase, Coach Fukuda and Coach Nozomi. Benzen reveals that even though this meeting is called the "last interview" it will just be a simple set of questions. Fukuda starts the questions by asking Ashito what he thought when he saw the Youth team in action. Ashito says that the Youth team were super strong and the Tryout team could barely do anything until the final minutes. He also reveals that he never even though about giving up on soccer until today seeing what monsters the Youth team were.

Ashito then asks Coach Fukuda a counterquestion, trying to find out why exactly did Fukuda why did he tell the Youth team to play in a reverse formation. (Note: The reverse formation are defenders playing as forwards and forwards playing as defense. Only the goalie maintained his original position.) Fukuda reveals that he only informed the Youth team a week ago about the position changes and told them to utterly defeat the Tryout team no matter what. He goes on to explain that for the last week, the Youth team has been racking their brains and talking with the coaches and each other to develop a plan. Fukuda also hoped that this would help the Youth players learn a bit more about other positions which will help them progress as well. He finally also mentions that he wanted to test the mental fortitude of the Youth team because that is exactly what Professional players need, mental fortitude.

Fukuda realizes he has been rambling and brings it back to the interview. Coach Nozomi interjects and tells Fukuda to ask Ashito about the goal. He does so and asks Ashito to explain esactly what he was thinking about the play. Ashito says he's not really sure about what he did but in a very rudimentary way manages to explain that he felt like he had to move to the left wing and realized Ōtomo understood what he was doing. His reason for covering behind Ōtomo as he took the shot was just in case Ōtomo missed so Ashito could recover the rebound. Fukuda is impressed that Ashito is able to convey the plan in words. When Fukuda asks Ashito if he was thinking about anything else, he is surprised when Ashito reveals that he was thinking of his Mom and Brother. Ashito always felt that he said he would become a pro soccer player without realizing what it means, but when he realized how much his family has done for him, Ashito declares that he will become a professional soccer player no matter, even if he passes the Tryout or not.
