Summary[]
Ashito opens the bag and envelope from his Mom on the train to Tokyo. Even though the letter is quite sappy and Ashito starts laughing, his mom has managed to send Ashito off with a quite a bit of pocket money and has bought Ashito a brand new pair of Soccer Cleats.
Synopsis[]
The chapter beings with Ashito Aoi sitting down on the train to Tokyo and looking at the bag his Mom, Noriko Aoi, meant for him to open on the train. Ashito thinks long and hard about what the envelope attached with the bag could be. Ashito remembers back to when he was younger when his mother yelled at himself and his brother Shun that she hates people who avoid facing their responsibilites and that imporatnt things should be said in person. Ashito comments on how hypocritical it was that his Mom said this to them as kids but could only send an envelope to Ashito.
Ashito imagines that the letter will be a scathing critique from his Mom about how he is leaving Ehime for Tokyo without even considering his family's small budget and how Ashito was never responsible from the beginning. He also thinks that the letter will state that the bag is full of the adult magazines Ashito left at home and to never come home again. Ashito realizes that if this were the case, his Mom would have told him this in person. Ashito finally rips the opening of the envelope and is surprised to to see a debit card as well as a bankbook as well as a letter.
He beings to read the letter from his Mom which says that she was very sorry for avoiding Ashito even though he tried to talk to her for the past 6 months. She says that she is not very good with depressing things and she is also a selfish person. She then refers to the bankbook and the debit card in the letter. She states that even though she will be paying for Ashito's school and club fees, the book and card contains some money for daily expenses for Ashito. She says that if she had that much money on hand, she would spend it on the restaurant and as such, she wants Ashito to have it. The amount of money enclosed in the bank account for Ashito is about ¥200,000 (or about $1800). Shen then states again that even though he tried to talk to her about everything, she overheard the most important thing when Ashito found out he passed the Tryout which was when Ashito said that he doesn't want his Mom to worry and for her to be at ease.
Ashito realizes how sappy the letter is and how contrary it is to his Mom's attitude and realizes he's going to laughing at the letter the entire way to Tokyo. However, Ashito reads the next note in the letter. Noriko wants to apologize for never buying proper soccer cleats for Ashito and as a farewell gift, She has enclosed a brand-new set of Soccer cleats for Ashito. Ashito unboxes the cleats, and remembers the time he was mocked for having old cleats and he continues reading and his Mom writes that Ashito has worked so hard for this opportunity and no matter what, Noriko will support Ashito to her fullest extent. She ends the note by admitting that she may not know a lot about soccer, but no matter what happens to Ashito, she is proud of the man he has become. Ashito starts crying loudly on the train and the rest of the passengers stare at him. Ashito composes himself and with a new steely resolve, is ready to show Esperion his Soccer.
