"Ignored" ( () () TBA) is Chapter 33 of the Ao Ashi series, written and illustrated by Yūgo Kobayashi and based on a concept by Naohiko Ueno. This chapter was published in the 46th issue of Big Comic Spirits' 2015 series.

Summary[]

With five minutes remaining in the match, Ashito Aoi hasn’t received the ball, which leaves spectators feeling sympathetic, thinking the Black Team is ignoring him. However, Coach Nozomi Date sees it as a strategic move by his teammates. Ashito’s frustration grows, but Yūma, Kameyama and Kuroda create a well-coordinated play that leads to a second goal without Ashito’s involvement. Through this, Ashito realizes his teammates' actions were not out of malice but strategy, emphasizing how far he has to go in understanding individual tactics and teamwork.

Synopsis[]

The chapter begins with Kanpei Kuroda playing a backwards pass to Wataru Kameyama who then sends the ball to the Left Back, Keiji Togashi. Togashi controls the ball and then sends a pass to upfield. As the game continues untill there is only 5 minutes remaining. Ashito Aoi has yet to receive the ball even once. The spectators notice this as well and start feeling bad for Ashito as they see it as the Black Team suddenly ignoring him and playing without Ashito. However, Coach Nozomi Date sees it a different way. He says that the Black Team is making the correct decision and then asks fellow Coach Aki Tsukishima about any players that are worth observing. Tsukishima says that the players of note are Eisaku Ōtomo, Sōichirō Tachibana, Kanpei Kuroda, Ryūichi Takeshima and Jun Marchs Asari. The only thing Nozomi has to say as well is that Tachibana plays very well, but he is getting a bit stressed about not scoring a goal.

Back on the field, Asari rudely talks to Ashito. He says that ever since Ashito had the incredible play during the Tryouts, he has been replaying that play over and over but now he realizes that it was nothing but a fluke. Asari ends the conversation by sarcastically introducing himself to Ashito once again. Nozomi says that Asari is an incredible defender who works hard year after year to get better. Ashito, filled with determination, refuses to end the game with himself still being ignored and tries to forcibly push himself into the passing system. He yells at Yūma Motoki to pass him the ball and says he will keep possession. Yūma yells back telling Ashito to stop moving and not to join the attack. Yūma then proceeds to call Kameyama up to support him from behind. Yūma runs with the ball towards the left corner of the 18-Yard Box while luring Takeshima with him. He then yells for Kuroda who begins to run on the opposite side of the Box. Yūma suddenly plays a backheel pass to Kameyama who understands that Yūma wants him to pass to the opposite corner to Kuroda. As he sends the ball, Togashi appears, intercepting the pass and scores making the Score 2-0.

Anri Kaidō then explains to Hana Ichijō that the biggest difference in Ashito compared to the other members is that he cannot learn individual tactics is because he cannot convey in clear terms what he wants other players to do quickly (a.k.a Coaching). Nozomi agrees with this and says Yūma is the prime example of this philosophy as he was fully aware of Ashito's intentions during the goal earlier and moved the ball to a spot where it would benefit Ashito. Nozomi also says that Yūma is Esperion's ideal forward.

Ashito comes to the realization at the end that Yūma told him to not move so Asari would be forced to mark Ashito and unable to close the gaps in the defense. He realizes that this behavior from his teammates are much different from his teammates back in the Ehime Football Club as those kids would ignore Ashito with but harrassment but this time, his teammates managed to score without him and no one is at fault. He realizes that for the sake of a goal, he was thrust aside and given the least work to do. As he comes to these realizations, the referee, Mamoru Hotta whistles for the end of the game.
