"Characteristic" (本 (ほん) 領 (りょう) , TBA) is Chapter 10 of the Ao Ashi series, written and illustrated by Yūgo Kobayashi and based on a concept by Naohiko Ueno. This chapter was published in the 16^th issue of Big Comic Spirits' 2015 series.

Summary

With Ashito trying to control the ball and attack down the left wing, Akutsu steals the ball and initiates a counterattack with the Youth team which ends in another goal. The Youth team doesn't ease up the pressure and continues their quick passing and breaks through the Tryout teams formation. They end up with 2 more goal-scoring chances, one which misses and hits the crossbar and the other ending in a goal.

Synopsis

The chapter opens with Akinori Kaneda and Ashito Aoi feeling that even though they are playing the Youth team, they don't seem to be that good. Nagisa Akutsu is then seen just staring at Ashito and letting him run past. Yūdai Hasegawa has the ball and sends a pass to Ashito with the command to break through the Defense from the sides.

As Ashito is ready to collect the pass, he approaches the defender Yūma Motoki. Ashito remembers the skill Coach Tatsuya Fukuda taught him, the First Touch, and traps the ball with the intent to behind Yūma and catch him off balance. Ashito deftly traps the ball and sets himself up perfectly to continue on. However. Akutsu appears suddenly to steal the back from Ashito immediately. Ashito is shocked with the speed of Akutsu's reaction and how he understood his (Ashito's) intentions. With two quick passes across the 18 yard box, Yōichi Kiriki has the ball and sends a one-touch pass to Makoto Shimizu who then sends another one-touch pass back to Akutsu.

Yōichi Kiriki receives a pass from Taira Nakamura shoots on his first touch to score the opening goal for the game.

The Youth team continue this one-touch passing and drives through the field. With a final pass from Taira Nakamura to Kiriki, he takes a direct shot and scores against the Tryout team. The score is now 1-0. The Tryout team, the kids who didn't make it to the final stage of tryouts and the crowd all have a similarly shocked expression.

Restarting the game, the Youth team gets the ball back again and once again does more one-touch passes and carries the ball all the way till the Tryout teams defensive midfield. As the Youth team has their sights set on scoring another goal, Ashito frantically tries searching for an answer on why and how the other teams passing is so accurate. Akutsu has the ball once again and takes another shot but it narrowly misses and hits the crossbar.

On the sidelines, Fukuda sees Hana Ichijō's awestruck face and explains why it seems why the Youth team seems like such monsters. When one-touch passing is done correctly, it can be used to quickly get into the opponents area, but for them to work effectively all players must be constantly moving to receive the pass and calculate positioning from the area around them. This technique is very risky as all 11 players on the team must be working in perfect sync. As the Tryout team is too shocked to even move but Ashito is frustrated and tries to spur his teammates on. He manages to intercept the pass of the ball and while it seems that the Tryout team is about to have a counterattack, Akutsu once again appears at Ashito's side and shoots from long range where his ball finds the back of the net. The score is now (2-0)
