Summary[]
With the reveal of the opponents being mostly the first string of the Esperion Youth team, most of the Tryout team is nervous and stressed. However, Ashito tries to rally his team and saying that if they win they all will have to pass the final exam. However Akutsu hears this and asks Fukuda to participate since Ashito is underestimating them.
Synopsis[]
The chapter starts with the final exam opponents being revealed and Coach Fukuda introduces them as the Tokyo City Esperion Youth Members. Ōtomo is scared and Kaneda and Ashito have similary shocked expressions. The spectators of the tryouts think that Fukuda has gone mad to suggest this game as a test.
Mamoru Izumi interjects out loud that the tryout team are only middle school students while the Youth team is on a different level completely in physicality and in techniques. He says that this match won't be a fair way for the tryout team to showcase their skills. Fukuda shuts him down right away by saying playing against a higher level opponent is truly on of soccer's greatest thrills and that this tryout is a true challenge.
The final exam is going to be two halves of 20 minutes, a 40 minute long match. In Sōichirō Tachibana's memory that he saw the Esperion Youth team play in the last years J-Youth Cup Final where they won 2-0. After seeing their level of play, Tachibana decided to leave Musashino FC.
As Hana looks on from the sidelines, Ashito has a flashback to when he first met Fukuda on the beach in Ehime. Fukuda then states to the tryout team that there wont be any instructions from him but he will say some things as well during the match. Even though the tryout team is visibly nervous, Ashito attempts to rally the tryout team by saying that they will win. Izumi adds onto this by saying that even though the youth team is a grade above them and that most of the members are on the first string team the only way they have a chance to show off their skills is to approach this game with a winning mentality. Ashito agrees and says that if the tryout team manages to beat the Youth team, the coaches will be forced to pass everyone.
Nagisa Akutsu then approaches Fukuda asking him to find someone else to be the linesman as he wants to participate in this match as well since he finds that Ashito is greatly underestimating them.
